Cake Club by Marina Square
Marina Square has a new pop up event where cake and dessert vendors sell their desserts in the Glass House every weekend until 26th August 2018. What's special about this is that some vendors usually only sell their whole cakes online but through this, you are able to have your cake (by the slice) and eat it too!
The area is quite spacious and nicely decorated to suit the theme of the cake club. The furniture can be moved around easily for the activities they hold here too. There was a interactive story telling session for children here when we visited then.
The cake bar has quite a good selection of cakes. While we were there, the cakes were from 5 bakeries and the guest dessert vendor was Non-Entrée Desserts.
The cakes that we tried were (in clockwise direction), Rosé from Ciel Patisserie, Speculoos Cheesecake from Bloomsbury Bakers, Ondeh Ondeh cake from inthebrickyard, Matcha cake from My Sister Bakes, Orh Nee cake from Bloomsbury Bakers and Pandan Berries cake from Milk Moons.
I liked how many of these cakes have a local twist to them and they were quite yummy as well. Even the table is dessert themed and this one was supposed to be an eclair. Also, other local businesses who were present were Birds of Paradise Gelato Boutique and The 1872 Clipper Tea Co. We got to try their Blissful Berries tea and it was very refreshing.
Guest vendor, Non Entrée Desserts, brought over their signature avalanche desserts which were yam and salted egg flavoured. The cakes were deep fried just for this event, while served baked at their cafe. The deep fried cakes gave a crispy texture, complementing the yam which was thick and fragrant too.
The salted egg avalanche had a savoury twist and I really liked it because the salted egg flavour was rich. I enjoyed eating this a lot and there are even curry leaves in this too.
Another dessert Non Entrée brought in was the rubber ducky, made from mango sorbet and lemongrass foam. This was very refreshing and I enjoyed this quite a bit.
Apart from having cakes and desserts, this space offers dessert workshops such as piping Korean Buttercream Flowers and Succulent Cupcakes from Yume Patisserie and kid friendly workshops such as Cakepops Design by Nanatang. For more details on the workshops, visit http://cakeclub.peatix.com.
The vendors rotate so you will get to try cakes and desserts of different flavours by a variety of bakers at once. The guest vendor for 4-5 August is Lickety Ice Cream & Waffles and they're going to have pink waffles, an exclusive for Cake Club!
A big thank you to Burpple for the invite and Marina Square for hosting us! :)
